Remember Brad Pitt in Legends of the Fall? How many of us would have been willing to do just about anything to be on that horse with him? First, it would’ve required that we had experience riding a horse in the past. Well, there’s no time like the present to learn how.
Many women are looking for ways to learn new things and I can’t think of something more exotic and fun than learning to ride horseback. It’s a great opportunity to get a couple of your closest friends together to learn and, probably, laugh at each other. Nothing is funnier than watching each other blooper after blooper!
There are many horseback-riding facilities in hometowns all across the country, many in our own backyard. All it takes is a little investigating. Ask around for referrals or peruse the Internet on search engines like Google, Yahoo or Yellow Pages. You’ll definitely want to check out this website: Horse Trail Directory for more ideas.
After you’ve formulated a list, you’ll want to contact the facilities you find interesting and ask many questions…
- Make sure you tell them that you are a beginner and are looking for a group booking.
- Inquire about what trails they offer, the time frames and whether they offer any historical commentary along the way.
- You may want to find out if there is a nearby or onsite restaurant to fuel up either before or after your ride.
- Ask about what experience is needed for certain trails. Most all facilities offer trails for beginners.
- Find out what clothes you should wear and other recommended items to bring – such as bottled water, snacks, ID, etc. Don’t forget your camera to snap all those priceless moments for your album!
- If it’s a little bit of a drive, find out if they have any place to wash up afterwards. You may want to bring a change of clothes so y’all won’t smell like a farm on the way home.
