In October 2003, President George W. Bush proclaimed October National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and since then a bigger effort has been made to get the word out on early detection and treatment of this devastating disease.
With over 2 million women living with breast cancer in the United States, the odds are that this disease, in some way, has affected most of us. Maybe it was by being there with your mother during chemotherapy, or by walking in memory of a girlfriend who lost her battle, or maybe it was by surviving it yourself and sharing your story. No matter how it’s affected you, the fight must continue.
The American Cancer Society reports that breast cancer is the number two cause of cancer deaths among women. It is expected that this year, 212,920 will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer and about 40,970 will die from it.
Although these numbers are staggering, there is hope. The American Cancer Society states that “Breast Cancer death rates are going down,” and it’s believed it is a result of early diagnosis and improved treatment. With this encouraging information, we ask that you join the fight against breast cancer and here are some ways you can help.
